Decorative resin flooring

Decorative Flake Systems

Decorative detail. A hard-working finish.

Decorative flake flooring combines coloured chips with a resinous base and compatible clear finishing coats. It creates a patterned, continuous surface that can suit both practical working areas and customer-facing spaces.

East Coast Coatings installs decorative flake systems with the colour blend, broadcast coverage and finishing layers selected for the application.

How the system is constructed

After the concrete is prepared and any required repairs or moisture-control work is completed, the specified basecoat is applied. Decorative flakes are broadcast into the wet resin, then the cured surface is prepared for the clear finishing coats.

The flakes create the pattern; the complete resin system provides the bond and finished wearing surface. Choosing an attractive blend is only one part of selecting the floor.

Why consider a polyaspartic finish?

Compatible polyaspartic topcoats offer options for abrasion resistance, UV stability and faster curing. They can provide a clear protective finish over the decorative layer without changing the system into a one-size-fits-all solution.

The selected product, slab condition, temperature and installation sequence determine the practical schedule. A fast-curing finish is not a guarantee that every project can be installed and returned to full service in one day.

Tailor the appearance and texture

Flake size, colour blend and broadcast coverage influence the visual effect. The clear finish and any specified traction additive influence the final surface texture. Cove bases can also be incorporated where the system and detailing allow.

The preferred finish should account for the area's cleaning requirements as well as its appearance. A sample is useful for comparing a finer, more uniform look with a bolder blend.

Typical applications

Commercial interiors, locker rooms, service areas, utility rooms, retail spaces and garages, subject to the proposed system's suitability for traffic and exposure.

Is a flake floor automatically slip-resistant?

No. Traction depends on the finished surface, contamination, footwear and maintenance. The presence of decorative flakes alone is not a slip-resistance specification.
